AMRO, together with 20 leading research institutions, pledges to foster regional cooperation and research toward ASEAN+3 macroeconomic and financial stability

SINGAPORE, September 29, 2023 – The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) and 20 leading research institutions today launched the ASEAN+3 Finance Think-tank Network (AFTN) to foster cooperation and research toward regional macroeconomic and financial resilience and stability.

“Addressing the complex and evolving challenges we are facing today call for broader and deeper regional cooperation. By establishing the AFTN, AMRO and our 20 esteemed network members from across ASEAN+3 aim to bolster knowledge exchange and generate innovative ideas and solutions toward safeguarding the region’s macroeconomic and financial resilience and stability,” said AMRO Director Kouqing Li.

Under the AFTN Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC), the network members pledge to strengthen cooperation and collaboration in areas of common interest through:

  • Joint research
  • Dialogues
  • Knowledge exchange
  • Mobilization of regional research resources

 

The AFTN is an initiative under AMRO’s Strategic Direction 2030. It serves as a platform for regional cooperation and dialogue and as an intellectual resource to contribute to the macroeconomic and financial resilience and stability in ASEAN+3.

About AMRO

The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) is an international organization established to contribute toward securing macroeconomic and financial resilience and stability of the ASEAN+3 region, comprising 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China; Hong Kong, China; Japan; and Korea. AMRO’s mandate is to conduct macroeconomic surveillance, support regional financial arrangements, and provide technical assistance to the members. In addition, AMRO also serves as a regional knowledge hub and provides support to ASEAN+3 financial cooperation.
