Jinho Choi

Deputy Group Head and Principal Economist

Dr. Jinho Choi is a seasoned macroeconomist with over 20 years of experience at a central bank and an international organization. Since joining AMRO in March 2016, he has participated in its country surveillance missions for China, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam. He currently serves as Deputy Group Head and Principal Economist at AMRO, and is the mission chief for the Philippines, and Cambodia.

Previously, Dr. Choi held various roles at the Bank of Korea from 1999 to 2016, working in the Research Department, Monetary Policy Department, International Department and the Governor’s Office.

His research spans both policy and academic fields, with a focus on macroeconomic modelling, monetary and fiscal policy, and ASEAN+3 economies. At AMRO, he authored several notable working papers, including “Japan’s Sovereign Rating in the Post-Pandemic Era”, “The Role of Vietnam’s FDI Inflows in Global Value Chains Participation and Economic Growth”, and “A Framework for Assessing Policy Space in ASEAN+3 Economies and the Combat against COVID-19 Pandemic”. His academic work has appeared in leading journals such as Quantitative Economics, Journal of Applied Econometrics, and Economic Modelling.

Dr. Choi holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Indiana University at Bloomington, and a Master’s in Applied Economics from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He graduated with Master’s in Finance and Bachelor’s in Economics from Seoul National University.
