Dr. Sungcheol Kim joined the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) in July 2024. He is responsible for coordination, including secretariat support for the ASEAN+3 Finance Process and the ASEAN+3 Finance Think-tank Network (AFTN), as well as supporting the Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralisation (CMIM), enhancing regional financial cooperation.
Before joining AMRO, Dr. Kim worked at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Korea from 2008, gaining extensive experience in international finance, government bond management, price stability, and economic policy development. His experience also includes working in the Research Department of the Bank of Korea, where he focused on macroeconomic analysis, and serving as the advisor to the G20 Sherpa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea, where he provided strategic insights on global economic policy discussions.
Dr. Kim holds a PhD and a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Washington in Seattle, US, as a recipient of a Fulbright grant, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Yonsei University, Korea. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in the state of Washington, US.
