Dr. Ruperto Majuca is Senior Specialist at the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO). Dr Majuca’s extensive working experience in the government, private, and academic sectors extends over two decades. In the government sector, Dr Majuca’s experience includes being Officer-in-Charge Deputy Director-General (vice-minister level) and Assistant Director-General (vice vice-minister level) of the National Economic Development Authority of the Philippines (2012-2013); Senior Research Fellow in the state think thank; and economist and planning officer for the Department of Science and Technology. In the private sector, his experience includes being economist for San Miguel Corporation and tax and corporate lawyer for Arthur Andersen – Manila Office. In the academe, Dr Majuca was an associate professor at De La Salle University, Manila; an assistant professor at Weber State University, Utah; and a lecturer, research assistant, and teaching assistant at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Before joining AMRO, he had also been a consultant for the Asian Development Bank (ADB), ADB Institute, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).
Dr Majuca holds a Ph.D in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he was also a Fulbright scholar. He also holds a law degree (J.D., second honors) from the Ateneo de Manila University, and an undergraduate degree in economics (with honors, best thesis) from the University of the Philippines at Diliman.
