Dr. R. Sean Craig joined AMRO in 2022. He is currently Consultant in the Financial Surveillance team, contributing to AMRO’s second flagship report—the ASEAN+3 Financial Stability Report.

Prior to joining AMRO, Dr. Craig served at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for 23 years. He held a wide variety of positions, most recently in the IMF Asia and Pacific Department on the team producing the Regional Economic Outlook. He served as IMF Resident Representative in Hong Kong, China, from 2010 to 2013, where he contributed to the Global Financial Stability Report. He also worked in the IMF’s Research; Strategy, Policy, and Review; and Monetary and Capital Markets departments. After retiring from the IMF, he was appointed at the IMF’s Capacity Development Office in Thailand from 2020 to May 2023 as Macroeconomic Advisor and a Long Term Expert.

Before the IMF, Dr. Craig worked at the Bank for International Settlements for five years, and the Federal Reserve Board’s International Division for 10 years.

Dr. Craig holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Boston University with specializations in Monetary and International Economics, and a B.A. in Economics from the Claremont Colleges in California.
