Ms. Laura Britt-Fermo serves as Deputy Group Head and Senior Economist at AMRO, where she is the acting head of the Macro-Financial Research Group, leading AMRO’s macro-financial surveillance efforts.
Ms. Fermo has extensive expertise in central banking, monetary policy analysis, financial stability, and systemic risk management. Before joining AMRO, she held a number of senior roles at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), including Senior Economist for the Technical Secretariat to the Monetary Board; Head of the Quantitative Studies and Research Staff at the Office of Systemic Risk Management (OSRM); and pioneer Principal Researcher/Director at the BSP Research Academy, established in 2021.
Ms. Fermo was also a lecturer in International Economics and Trade at the University of the Philippines School of Economics (UPSE) between 1996-1998. She has received a number of prestigious awards, including the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) RONPAKU scholarship, the Gerardo P. Sicat Award, the BSP Praise Gantimpala Award for Excellence and the Most Outstanding Filipino JSPS Fellow in Economics.
Ms. Fermo holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Keio University, Japan, and a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Economics from UPSE.
