SINGAPORE, August 22, 2025 – The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) announced today the appointments of Joong Beom Shin as Deputy Director for Administration, and Wenhua Li as Deputy Director for Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralisation (CMIM), Strategy and Coordination. Both will assume their roles on September 27, 2025, for a three-year term.

With over 30 years of experience in macroeconomic policy management, international finance, and administrative functions such as human resources and budgeting, Mr. Shin has held senior positions in the Korea Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Presidential Office, as well as the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Before joining AMRO, he served as Secretary to the President of Korea for Economic and Financial Affairs. Mr. Shin holds a Ph.D. in Economics from University of Missouri-Columbia, USA, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Yonsei University, Korea.

Mr. Li is currently Director in the Department of International Economic Relations of the Ministry of Finance of China, and previously served as AMRO’s Group Head of Budget, HR and Support Service from 2019-2022. With more than 20 years of experience in international economic and financial cooperation, he has a strong track record in strategic planning, policy formulation, and team leadership. Mr. Li holds a Master of Public Administration from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Economics from Peking University, China.

The appointments, made by AMRO Director Yasuto Watanabe following a competitive international recruitment process, were based on assessments by an interview panel of six representatives of ASEAN+3 members and the AMRO Director. They have been endorsed by AMRO’s Executive Committee, the organization’s highest decision-making body, comprising Deputies of Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors of ASEAN+3 members.
