Mr. Andrew Tsang joined AMRO in September 2021. He serves as Country Economist for Singapore and as a monetary and financial expert for the Philippines. Previously, he supported country surveillance for Cambodia and Brunei.
Prior to joining AMRO, Mr. Tsang worked for the Hong Kong Monetary Authority from 2003 to 2018 and from 2011 to 2018. He conducted research and surveillance on the Hong Kong economy, Hong Kong banking sector and mainland China economy. During 2008 to 2009, he worked for the Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), focusing on research into Asian economies.
Mr. Tsang has over 20 years of experience in economic research, focusing on monetary policy, financial market, exchange rate, and China economy. His work has been published in peer-reviewed international journals, including Journal of International Money and Finance, International Journal of Central Banking, Economic Modelling, Empirical Economics, and Journal of Asian Economics. He authored two joint research papers on ASEAN financial markets with AMRO staff while completing his Ph.D.
Mr. Tsang received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Hamburg and holds a Master of Philosophy and a Bachelor of Social Science in Economics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He also is a certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM), and a certified Energy Risk Professional (ERP).
