The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) has a vacancy for Research Analyst in the Country Surveillance Group.
The successful candidates will report to the designated Group Head of the Country Surveillance Group and be responsible for supporting the Group’s country surveillance and research activities. The candidate should have a good understanding of macroeconomics and international finance and be knowledgeable about ASEAN+3 economies.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support the production of the Country Surveillance Group’s knowledge products (such as surveillance-related research, analytical papers or thematic studies) by sourcing, generating and analyzing key data and statistics using relevant analytical tools, summarizing the results and findings, and supporting the preparation of the research presentation materials.
- Maintain and update key macroeconomic databases for the designated Country Surveillance Group, ensuring accessibility by all economists in the Group. Develop new databases, if required, under the guidance of the supervisors to meet the Country Surveillance Group’s evolving requirements.
- Maintain documents, such as electronic templates and other automated dashboards on a timely basis. Regularly review these resources to reflect current information and enhance their effectiveness.
- Compile routine economic updates within the Country Surveillance Group by working closely with the economists, and communicating them in a timely manner to the Group Head and the broader Surveillance Team.
- Provide other research support for the Country Surveillance Group’s activities as directed by the supervisors.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the supervisors.
Institutional Responsibilities:
- Participate in any institution-wide activity, such as AMRO’s internal committees or task forces, as assigned.
- Perform any other duty as may be reasonably required in furtherance of AMRO’s overall goals.
The candidate should possess:
- A bachelor’s degree in economics, international finance, public policy, statistics or other related fields, with a strong background in macroeconomics and econometrics; a postgraduate degree would be an advantage.
- Experience with economic research, database and content management, particularly with third-party mainstream economic and financial markets database providers such as Bloomberg, CEIC, Haver Analytics and Refinitiv (Datastream); familiarity with Asian economics and finance data would be an advantage; willingness and ability to quickly learn new tools and programming languages is required.
- Familiarity in software applications such as Microsoft Office and in the application of econometric packages, such as EViews, MATLAB, Stata; proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R would be beneficial.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong data management and visualization skills.
- Strong motivation and willingness to take initiative and accountability for the accuracy of both data and analyses.
- Resourcefulness, strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multicultural environment.
- High proficiency in written and spoken English.
