The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) has a vacancy in the Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralisation (CMIM) Support Group for a CMIM Specialist.

CMIM is a multilateral currency swap arrangement among ASEAN+3 members, with core objectives to: (i) address balance of payment and/or short-term liquidity difficulties in the ASEAN+3 region, and (ii) supplement existing international financial arrangements. More information can be found here.

The successful candidate will be assigned to the CMIM Support Group, which provides policy recommendations to the CMIM members on further strengthening the CMIM arrangement as the center of the ASEAN+3 regional financial safety net and an integral part of the Global Financial Safety Net (GFSN). S/he will also support the longer-term developments of the ASEAN+3 Regional Financing Arrangements (RFAs). S/he will report to the Group Head of the CMIM Support Group, and works closely with the ASEAN+3 member authorities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Review the CMIM arrangement and its related policies and guidelines to provide the CMIM members with policy analysis and recommendations to strengthen and enhance the operational readiness of the CMIM.
  • Conduct research on CMIM/RFA-related matters for further enhancement of the regional financial stability, including the exploration of new facilities and financing structures to tackle with new and emerging risks and their potential manifestation into crises through rigorous studies and learning from other peer RFAs.
  • Follow up macroeconomic situations of the CMIM members in accordance with CMIM objectives, provided by AMRO macroeconomic surveillance group.
  • Coordinate with the member authorities, and provide Technical Assistance (TA) on CMIM-related matters in coordination with AMRO TA team.
  • Implement any other tasks as assigned by Group Head and/or Deputy Director and senior management of AMRO.

 

Institutional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in any institution-wide activity, such as AMRO’s internal committees or task forces, as assigned.
  • Facilitate training/seminars/workshops to disseminate knowledge to AMRO staff and external stakeholders.
  • Perform any other duty as may be reasonably required in furtherance of AMRO’s overall goals.

 

The candidate should possess:

  • An advanced degree from a reputable university in the field of economics, international finance/relations, or other related fields.
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience preferably in international and regional financial cooperation. Work experience at International Financial Institutions (IFIs) or other international organizations will be advantageous.
  • Strong team spirit to cooperate with colleagues of diverse cultural backgrounds at all levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal skill and high proficiency in both spoken and written English to interact with tact and diplomacy.
  • The ability to work under pressure, such as resource / time constraints or unforeseen changes / problems.
  • Strong problem-solving skill with independence and self-determination.
  • Strong persistence, efficiency and punctuality in handling multiple tasks.
  • In-depth knowledge and capacity on international financial architecture, GFSN, CMIM and related issues.
