Mr. Joong Beom Shin assumed the role of AMRO’s Deputy Director on September 27, 2025. He is responsible for Administration—including Budget, Human Resource (HR) Management, Support Services, Legal Affairs—and Technical Assistance (TA) operations.
With over 30 years of experience in macroeconomic policy management, international finance, and administrative functions such as HR and budgeting, Mr. Shin has held senior positions in the Korea Ministry of Economy and Finance (KMOEF) and the Presidential Office, as well as the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Before joining AMRO, he served as Secretary to the President of Korea for Economic and Financial Affairs. He previously held key positions such as Director General of the International Finance Bureau, Chief Secretary to Deputy Prime Minister, Director of Human Resources Management Division, and Director of Foreign Exchange Market Division at KMOEF. Mr. Shin’s extensive international engagement includes representing Korea in the G20 and ASEAN+3 policy initiatives at ministerial and summit levels.
He served two terms at the IMF—first as an economist in the Fiscal Affairs Department (2007 to 2011), contributing to fiscal policy analysis and TA, and later as Senior Advisor to the Executive Director for the Asia & Pacific Constituency (2017 to 2020) where he engaged in a broad range of policy discussions, including the Fund’s introduction of new financing instruments in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Shin holds a Ph.D. in Economics from University of Missouri-Columbia in the USA and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Yonsei University in Korea.
