On November 30, AMRO Director Kouqing Li and Chief Economist Hoe Ee Khor met with Indonesia Ministry of Finance Fiscal Policy Agency Chairman Febrio Nathan Kacaribu (first photo, fourth from left) and Chaikal Nuryakin, Director of Institute for Economic and Social Research at Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia (LPEM FEB UI) (second photo). AMRO Deputy Director Tetsuya Utamura warmly received Ambassador Masahiko Kiya from the Mission of Japan to ASEAN at our office. They discussed the region’s challenges and the future direction of regional financial cooperation in ASEAN+3, as well as AMRO’s role in contributing to the region’s macroeconomic and financial resilience and stability.

AMRO Director Kouqing Li paid courtesy calls on members of the ASEAN+3 Finance Think-tank Network (AFTN) in Vietnam: the National Institute for Finance, Banking Academy of Vietnam, and Foreign Trade University. They discussed the country’s economic outlook and policy responses, and potential areas of collaboration in research and knowledge exchange.

During their visit to the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) Headquarters in Basel, Switzerland, AMRO Director Kouqing Li and colleagues met with BIS General Manager Agustin Carstens and Head of Monetary and Economic Department Claudio Borio. They discussed how our institutions can collaborate toward our common goal of macroeconomic and financial resilience and stability.
Separately, they also met with Financial Stability Board (FSB) Secretary General John Schindler where both institutions discussed how we can potentially work together as strategic partners. AMRO also had the opportunity to learn more about the FSB’s work and mission of promoting global financial stability through strong financial sector policies.
Following the 8th High-level Regional Financing Arrangements (RFAs) Dialogue, AMRO Director Kouqing Li, Deputy Director Tetsuya Utamura, Chief Economist Hoe Ee Khor, European Stability Mechanism (ESM) Managing Director Pierre Gramegna, Chief Economist Rolf Strauch, Secretary General Nicola Giammarioli and colleagues had a more in-depth dialogue on how to further enhance RFAs amid today’s highly complex environment. During their visit, both institutions had a productive discussion on regional economic situation and ways to strengthen ASEAN+3 region’s macroeconomic and financial stability, as well the progress of AMRO’s Strategic Direction 2030 and key initiatives.
On September 1, AMRO Director Kouqing Li and Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masatsugu Asakawa signed an agreement to extend the term of the MOU between Asian Development Bank and AMRO, further strengthening cooperation between our two institutions. Through the partnership, AMRO and ADB will collaborate to support efforts in contributing to the macroeconomic and financial resilience and stability, and improved cooperation and integration in the ASEAN+3 region.
During the Annual Consultation Visit to Hong Kong, China, AMRO Director Kouqing Li and the AMRO team met with Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) Executive Director (External) Kenneth Hui and HKMA officials.
On August 31, AMRO Director Kouqing Li paid courtesy call on Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) President Dr. Aniceto C. Orbeta Jr.. Both parties exchanged views on potential areas of collaboration in research and knowledge exchange. PIDS is a member of the ASEAN+3 Finance Think-tank Network (AFTN).

AMRO Director Kouqing Li and Chief Economist Hoe Ee Khor visited the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (FAORAP) in Bangkok. They were welcomed by Jiaoqun Shi, Regional Programme Leader and Special Advisor of FAO’s South-South and Triangular Cooperation, and discussed food security-related issues that could impact ASEAN+3 macroeconomic and financial stability, including higher-than-expected food prices from extreme El Niño conditions. They also explored potential areas of synergy between both institutions.
AMRO warmly welcomed international economics students from Japan’s Keio University to our office. This visit was part of a study trip to deepen their knowledge of macroeconomic and financial developments in ASEAN+3. AMRO Director Kouqing Li gave a welcome remark and our experts explained AMRO’s role in safeguarding the macroeconomic and financial resilience and stability in ASEAN+3.
AMRO Director Kouqing Li and Deputy Director Dong-Ick Kim welcomed Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) Deputy Dean Seungju Baek to the AMRO office. They had a constructive exchange on ways to deepen AMRO and ADBI’s long-standing strategic partnership.
During AMRO’s Annual Consultation Visit to Thailand, AMRO Director Kouqing Li, Chief Economist Hoe Ee Khor and the AMRO team met with Deputy Governor Mathee Supapongse and other senior officials from the Bank of Thailand.

AMRO was delighted to welcome our first group of student visitors to our office. Their visit is part of a study trip to Singapore, organized by the Jeollabukdo Office of Education in Korea. CMIM Principal Specialist Beomhee Han hosted the visit and shared what AMRO does to safeguard the macroeconomic and financial resilience and stability in ASEAN+3.

AMRO is delighted to sign a Memorandum of Undertaking (MOU) for Cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Fiscal Sciences (CAFS). The MOU strengthens our partnership with China’s premier thinktank in areas of mutual interests, including contributing to the macroeconomic and financial resilience and stability in ASEAN+3 through joint research, knowledge exchange seminars, and capacity building workshops.
The MOU was signed by AMRO Director Li Kouqing and CAFS President Liu Shangxi.
On June 5 and 7, AMRO CMIM Principal Specialist, Beomhee Han and Senior Strategy and Coordination Officer, Faith Pang, conducted a seminar for students of the Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Tokyo on the role of AMRO in global and regional contexts. They presented “AMRO’s History and Evolution in the Context of ASEAN+3 Financial Cooperation” and “Global and Regional Financial Safety Nets: Achievements and Challenges”.
AMRO Director Kouqing Li and Deputy Directors, Dong-Ick Kim and Tetsuya Utamura, welcomed Korea Institute of Finance (KIF) President, Jongkyu Park; Visiting Research Fellow, Seongsoo Eun; and Senior Research Fellow, Min Chang to the AMRO office.
As a leading research institution for the development of Korea’s financial sector, KIF complements AMRO’s mission of contributing to the macroeconomic and financial resilience and stability of the ASEAN+3 region. Both institutions discussed ways to collaborate and exchange knowledge on research projects.
